Loaded up the scope and took it to the http://www.taas.org/ observatory near Belen, NM and was blessed with a  clear night. First light revealed 6 stars in the trapezium of the Orion Nebula and Stephan’s Quintet in Pegasus was readily seen with direct vision.  It is my impression the scope competes well with views through a 14.5 inch monocular and there is no comparison between binocular vision and peering through even the finest eyepiece with one eye.
